Hello! My name is Urian Lee and I am majoring in Accounting.
I have lived in Oklahoma ever since the summer of 2007. My family has recently
moved to Wisconsin this past winter so I am basically by myself now besides my
girlfriend and friends I have here. During my years here in Oklahoma, I have
been getting a lot of allergies compared to when I lived in Fresno,
California.
I am the oldest of three and I am the only one with a unique name. I was born in Fresno, Ca. and so was my little brother,
Peter. My younger sister, Emily, was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. The reason
why my sister was born in a different place was because our family had moved up
to Minnesota, a year after my brother was born, was to be closer with other
relatives who lived there and in Wisconsin. There in St. Paul I started
Kindergarten and ended 3rd grade. After finishing the 3rd
grade, my family and I moved back to Fresno. Four years later after moving to
Fresno we moved again and this time to Oklahoma. Why Oklahoma right? Well my parents saw interest in the
country side and in cattle raising so they bought a huge plot of land of about 177
acres in a little place called Nowata.
Not very many people in Oklahoma know much about Nowata. About
90% of my friends here at OU did not know about its existence until I came
along. My family had a lot of cattle when we lived in Nowata. We also had a
little dog too. My dad got our dog right before we moved from Fresno to Nowata.
Her name was Nikki and she was a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. She was my fourth pet
I had (not including some goldfish I used to have because they only lasted
about a week). A year after we moved in, Nikki had a litter of 3 little
puppies. We named them Mimi, Spotty, and Betty. Each of their names had some
sort of meaning in their appearance. Mimi was because she looked almost exactly
like her mother, Spotty because he had a white spot in the middle of his head,
and Betty because her fur was black and white and reminded us of a cow.

Long story short I graduated high school and I am now still
in college. This recent summer I did not have much time to have fun because I
worked and I had summer classes. In one of my classes I had to find some
historical landmarks around Norman and I chose two landmarks right here on
campus. One of them was the Bizzell Memorial Library that was declared a
National Historical Landmark in 2001. The second historical landmark is the
President’s House that our current OU President Boren is living in.

I have enjoyed every moment that I have had here at the University of Oklahoma. I have no regrets and will always keep moving forward. I hope that this school year will be another great year.

Hi Urian, Michelle here! I hope you have had a great start to your semester. How do you like Oklahoma compared to California? I lived in California for a year or two with my grandparents when I was younger since my parents were busy with working and I miss Cali so much! The climate is the best and there’s always something to do. Wisconsin is pretty far away. Did you visit your family there this past summer?
ReplyDeleteWow! 177 acres sounds huge! I’d be a little scared to have that much land just because I’m so directionally challenged that I would get lost out there for sure haha!
All your dogs look so sweet and adorable. Hopefully you can see them again soon! See you around!
Oh, those dogs are adorable, Urian! Betty is especially pretty! And small world: I was just reading Kha's blog before this one — Kha's dog Oliver is a dachshund:

And what a cool project for a class: I like the idea of researching landmarks right there in Norman! There are also some great non-historical urban legends and ghost stories about campus, too. Did you see this Storybook? It has some of those legends: scary stuff!
Live On, University Legends
Your dogs are so cute! (And this is coming from a cat person!) I like how you named them all by their appearances.
ReplyDeleteMoving from California to Oklahoma mug have been a difficult transition! I actually lived in LA for a year, before I moved here, and it was SO different! Allergies came back when I moved here as well, and it was also hard to deal with the weather.
Also, those are great pictures of the OU landmarks!
You've lived in lot of different areas. Which was your favorite? I really like California but probably just to visit. Everything is expensive and the traffic can be horrible.
ReplyDeleteI'm from a small town in Oklahoma too but Nowata is nearly to Kansas! It's a big transisiton moving from a small town and school to OU. I was overwhelmed when I first came to Kansas.
It's really neat that you lived on a ranch. My husband's family have cattle and it can be a lot of work but also a lot of fun.
It's really nice meeting you Urian.
Hi Urian,
ReplyDeleteMimi is so cute! I think it is really cute and fun how you named the dogs based on their appearance.
Wow you moved a lot! I feel that sometimes moving can be super overwhelming. I am from Virginia and I was in a bit of a culture shock when I got here. Is there any place that would would like to live at again?
I am not a big fan of numbers, so kudos for you being an accounting major! It was really nice meeting you, and I hope you have a good fall semester!
Hey Urian!
ReplyDeleteI loved the pictures of your dogs! I have five, so dogs always pull at my heart strings when I see or hear about them! I am so jealous you are graduating this year! I am a junior and hoping to graduate spring of 2017, fingers crossed! My sister lives about an hour outside of St. Paul, MN; I have flown into that airport and driven through there too many times to count!
Hi Urian!
ReplyDeleteI was born and raised here in this great state of Oklahoma, so I actually have heard of and been to Nowata! I also have family from random small towns with funny names, so I can relate to telling people about these towns and them having no idea what I am talking about!
Your dogs are so cute! I cannot wait until my lease is up so I can move somewhere pet friendly and get a dog!
Good luck this year!
Hey Urian! I know exactly where Nowata is! I went to school at Oologah and my parents live in Talala. I know that feeling when people look at your like you're crazy when you tell them where you're from. Your dogs look like a lot of fun! It's really cool that you lived in Fresno for a while. I'd like to live in California for a bit once I graduate. It was great to get to know a little about you.
ReplyDeleteHey Urian!
ReplyDeleteWow you have lived in a lot of places! My family has moved a lot because my dad was in the military but he got out when I was 5 so the only places I've lived have been Oklahoma and Texas, kind of boring haha. Your dogs are so cute, it must have been cool to have all those puppies running around! Also I didn't know that the Biz and Boren's house were national historical landmarks, I guess you learn something new everyday!
Hi, Urian!
ReplyDeleteI just want to start by saying I LOVE your dogs! They are super cute. I still think my dog is the cutest ever, but yours is pretty precious, too.
Although I was born in Oklahoma, both of my parents and their families are from Colorado. That being said, I totally understand the “why Oklahoma?” thing. I used to ask my parents that all the time! They too ended up in a super small town (Inola, you guys might have played them in sports) and bought land to have horses. I definitely grew to love it here, though, and I hope you did, too!
I really hope you have enjoyed the class so far! Enjoy the rest of your year.
Hi Urian,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you and your family have moved around a lot. Hopefully that was a good experience! It is interesting that you wrote about the fact that Bizzell being a historical landmark. I actually just found out why it is considered a landmark last week. I enjoyed all the photos that you provided. They really helped paint a picture!
Hey, Urian!
ReplyDeleteWow, you’re pretty well traveled! I can empathize with the allergies – Oklahoma is one of the worst states for it! Too many different weeds and trees, haha. Your dogs are also super adorable. Does your family still own that land and the cattle? Or did they sell when they moved up to Wisconsin? Picking Bizzell and the Boren’s house were good choices for your project – a lot of rich history there!
Hi Urian! I like how in depth you got with your introduction! It is nice to see how well traveled you are! I am from the Midwest, so I can understand why you are drawn to living in Minnesota.
ReplyDeleteWhy did you choose accounting as your major? Also, when are you set on graduating? Good luck with your academic pursuits, and I hope the rest of your semester goes well!
Hi Urian! How did your parents come up with that? I like it! I hate moving. All I did was move from Tulsa to Norman. I have moved to a new house every year I have been here but I hate it. I can't imagine what it is like to move all over the country even if you were so young. I am from Ok and I do know Nowata exist. I love all your pups! Good luck this year!
ReplyDeleteHello Urian!
ReplyDeleteYou sure have moved a lot! I lived in Oklahoma all 21 years of my life until this past May I moved to Virginia to live with my boyfriend. Just this one move has been hard for me to leave all my friends and family. I can't imagine having to do it as many times as you have had to. You spoke of the Mall of America, I got to go there once while I was still in high school. You are right it is awesome I hope to be able to go back someday!
Hi Urian, nice to meet you. What a unique first name. It is cool. I used to live in California as well. I also struggled with my allergies when I moved down to Texas. I think they have finally calmed down now. Your dogs are so cute. I love dogs. Mine is also small and cute like yours. It was nice learning about you.
